Building a Greener Future with Toucan
Overview
After transitioning from Web2 to Web3 development, I joined Toucan.earth, a VC-backed company revolutionizing carbon markets through DeFi integration. I played a key role in developing infrastructure that enabled businesses to tokenize, trade, and retire carbon credits effectively, processing millions in transactions and helping offset over 50,000 tons of CO2.
The Journey
My journey began with a trial month at Toucan, where I demonstrated my capabilities and enthusiasm for the project. This led to a full-time position that would become one of the most impactful decisions of my career. I’ve truly learned so much in my first year and I’ve forevel grateful to my ex-colleagues for their support.
The first major challenge was developing the OffsetHelper smart contract, which automated the complex process of converting tokens into carbon credits. This required deep understanding of both DeFi mechanics and secure smart contract development practices. The success of this project led to broader responsibilities, including the development of the Toucan SDK and cross-chain bridge interface.

OffsetHelper Smart Contract
Developed a smart contract that streamlined the carbon offsetting process, allowing users to directly convert tokens like USDC into carbon credits. The contract handled token acquisition, retirement, and ledger updates seamlessly, processing over 50,000 tons of CO2 offsets.
Toucan SDK
Co-developed a comprehensive SDK supporting multiple blockchain networks (Polygon and Celo). Built with TypeScript and Ethers.js, it provided developers with tools for redeeming pool tokens, retiring credits, and querying carbon project data.
Cross-Chain Bridge
Implemented a secure cross-chain bridge interface that processed over $10M in transactions across Polygon, Celo, and Cosmos, maintaining zero security incidents over two years of operation.
